Prime Minister Mark Carney announced a Cabinet Planning Forum in Banff, Alberta, on September 10–11, 2026. Cabinet ministers and secretaries of state will review progress and set next steps on economic strength, affordability, infrastructure, trade and defence relationships, Indigenous partnerships, and global affairs.

Prime Minister Mark Carney announced more than $4.7 billion for VIA Rail to acquire and maintain 313 new passenger rail cars from Alstom Canada. The cars will be built in Thunder Bay and La Pocatière, with design and engineering in Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville, replacing aging long-distance, regional, and remote fleet equipment.

Premier David Eby announced that construction has begun on the North Coast Transmission Line. The multi-phase project will expand electricity transmission capacity between Prince George and Terrace, supporting industrial and community power needs, clean-energy growth, jobs, trade diversification and major mining and energy projects in northern British Columbia.
Ontario and Canada Making Homes More Affordable in Mississauga
Premier Doug Ford announced that Mississauga could receive up to $401.4 million for housing-enabling infrastructure after committing to cut residential development charges by 50 per cent and eliminate them for certain rental units until March 31, 2029. The funding is subject to agreements and due diligence.
Premier Rob Lantz announced a revised Prince Edward Island cabinet, assigning ministers responsibility for transportation, justice, health, finance and affordability, energy, education, housing, agriculture and other portfolios. Lantz said the team will focus on health care, affordability, energy security, economic growth, primary care access and public services.
Ontario and Marten Falls First Nation Break Ground on Ring of Fire Road
Doug Ford marked the start of construction on the Marten Falls Community Access Road, part of the Ring of Fire road network. The 184-kilometre all-season route is planned to connect Marten Falls First Nation to Ontario’s highway network, with clearing, work-camp setup and aggregate-site access beginning.
